Weekly Price Recap: 1/5-1/11

Griddy members had another awesome week last week paying 7.8¢/kWh vs. the Texas average of 11.9c/kWh, which is 51% higher!

There were 3 price spikes across Texas last week with two coming Wednesday morning and one on Thursday night. The price spikes that occurred on Wednesday were due to higher than forecasted demand. This demand was higher as a result of colder than forecasted temperatures with low’s in the 30’s. On Thursday evening there was a brief price spike due to wind generation not ramping up as quickly as forecast in conjunction with thermal generation ramping down simultaneously. Additionally, there was just under 2 hours of negative pricing across the state with our lucky folks in west Texas experiencing  19 hours of negative pricing! Whoop! Whoop!
