Weekly Price Recap: 4/7- 4/13

Another great Griddy week! Our members averaged 8.6 ₵/kWh while the average Texan paid 11.6 ₵/kWh – that’s 35% higher!!! Only 2 price spikes this week, both coming on Thursday evening and lasting only 5 minutes. They were caused by lower than expected generation from both windmills and steam generators. But as always, gas-fired plants ramped up in response to the high price and quickly brought things back in to balance. And this week, we had 3 hours of free and negative-priced electricity! Our poor friends in South Texas had a rough week though with several hours of price spikes caused by congestion on the state’s transmission lines, but the Houston and Dallas areas were unaffected.
