Weekly Price Recap: 9/22-9/28

Griddy members had an above average week last week. Griddy members paid 18.0c/kWh vs. the Texas
average of 11.6c/kWh.

We had 15 price spikes spread out over several days this week. All of them were due to a combination of higher than expected demand along with limited generation capacity. Power plants often schedule their
maintenance for late September and early October when temperatures are supposed to be milder and cooling demand is lower. When we have unseasonably warm weather as we’ve had this month, demand ramps up and available supply is limited because of that maintenance. That’s what happened several days last week, and it resulted in sustained price spikes in the $1/kWh range.
